IGAD Monitoring teams start operations in South Sudan

Intergovernmental Authority on Development or IGAD-Monitoring and Verification Teams started their operations of in South Sudan.
 
In a statement issued on Friday, the first team was deployed to Bor in Jonglei State on April 1 followed by similar deployments in Bentiu in Unity State on April 5.
 
The statement added that the team would deploy to Malakal in Upper Nile State on April15.
 
It indicated that a plan was underway to deploy more teams to Nassir, Akobo and other areas in the near future.
 
The Monitoring and Verification body would report directly to IGAD Special Envoys who are leading the mediation process.
 
Joint Technical Committee and Monitoring Verification Teams would assess, monitor, investigate, verify and report allegations of violations against the agreement submitted by the parties, civilian authorities and communities.
