The government of Italy said it would continue supporting the Government of Southern Sudan despite its own economic difficulties.
Danilo Ghirelli, the Health Coordinator for Italian Cooperation, said his government is investing a great deal on Southern Sudan, particularly on education, health and infrastructure, Good News Radio reported.Mr. Ghirelli made this statement at the official inauguration of Rumbek Nursing School on Saturday.
He told the gathering that the Italian government was sponsoring the construction of a market in Juba.
Mr. Ghirelli added that the Italian Cooperation planned to spend 4.5million Euros (over 12 million Sudanese Pounds) on Education projects in Lakes State.
Mr. Ghirelli said the Italian government plans to invest even more in South Sudan.
The Director General in the Ministry of Health, Acut Acut, acknowledged the support of the Italian government now and during the time of war.
He cited a number of supportive Italian organizations like CUAMM, CCM, CISP and the Italian Cooperation operating in South Sudan and described Italy as a “great nation”.
The main market in Rumbek was built through funding from the Italian Cooperation.
