National Elections Commission officials are holding consultative meetings with elections stakeholders on the formation of States high committees.

Commission Chief Electoral Officer Mac Maika Deng told Emmanuel Radio that the consultation was ongoing in all ten states of South Sudan.

He added that consultation focused on getting views of election stakeholders to appoint high committee members as stipulated in National Election Act.

Mr Deng said appointment of high committee members would pave way for elections.

Chief Deng said the law requires enlightenment of election stakeholders on work and reasons for elections and benefits of having officials in the states.

He lamented that most elections result in loss of innocent lives, adding that it would be meaningless to hold elections if it would cause citizens’ loss of lives.

The official encouraged citizens to have legitimate leaders through peaceful, transparent and fair elections when time comes.

Participants in the consultative meetings include legislators, executives, political parties, media, Civil Society and Faith Based Organizations.
