Lakes State Agriculture and Forestry Minister issued an order suspending cutting of mahogany and other trees to curb deforestation and environmental degradation.
Alpayo Adet Majuong in a letter Good News Radio got on Wednesday said last year’s order licensing some individuals and companies to cut down trees for timber was suspended until further notice.
He warned that Forestry authorities and security organs would arrest and confiscate sawing machines of violators.
The Minister ordered charcoal and bamboo dealers to obtain permits from the Forestry Directorate.
He urged county authorities, security organs and community leaders to cooperate in apprehending illegal timber loggers in Lakes State.
