National, state governments and partners including Carter Centre, WHO, UNICEF and Rotary Club introduced Guinea worm cash reward strategy to minimize the disease.

Eastern Equatoria Health Minister Margret Itto told Bakhita Radio at Nanyangachor of Kapoeta East County on Monday that the cash reward was to ensure that guinea worm victims report to treatment centre.

She added that in 2013 they reduced Guinea worm by 78 percent and that in 2014 the country only reported five cases.

Kapoeta East County Commissioner Tito Lokwachuma Lotyam said, in 2012 South Sudan had higher figures, but dropped drastically in 2013 and 2014.

Locals in Kapoeta East County cited lack of basic services especially health centers drinking water and food as the major challenges increasing guinea worm infections.
