Yei River County Commissioner in Central Equatoria recommended the Governor to issue a state decree to protect the exploitation of the forest reserve in Yei.

Juma David Augustine told the press after an emergency consultation meeting on Friday that the forest was finishing without benefiting the host community, Easter Radio reported.

He said if the Governor does not save the situation, the state would lose the forest within the next six months.

Commissioner David lamented that out of 20 compartments, only four are left without the community benefiting through schools and health centres construction.

He added that the community asked for the felling of teak trees to stop.

Early this week, Kagelu residents staged a peaceful strike stopping Companies from cutting the trees until their demands are met.
