Deputy Foreign Minister on Wednesday said the government and South Sudanese required western diplomats including US, UK, Norway, France, Germany, Switzerland and Canada to apologize for issuing condemnation statement published on The Citizen Newspaper last Saturday.
Peter Bashir Gbandi argued that the apology would be useful for revitalizing valuable relationship with diplomats.
He added that diplomats’ apology would mean respect for South Sudan’s sovereignty and common interest as opposed to destruction.
Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Ambassador Charles Manyang told journalists after the meeting western diplomats that it was meant to improve relations with the ministry.
He observed that press condemnation statement issuance was not wrong, but diplomatic channels could be followed as a diplomacy norm.
Head of western diplomats’ delegation Sven Kuhn Von Burgsdorff said ‘it is the sovereign right of a developed nation to issue a press statement’.
He added that they would try to improve all ways of communication with the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
Ambassador Kuhn appreciated government’s frankness and honesty in the meeting, saying the content of the press release was a previous discussion.
The head of diplomats said they would consider working closely with the government to overcome political crisis in the country.
