Yei County Education Director urged communities to denounce negative social norms that deny girls’ rights to education.
Addressing the launch of social norms and community care program on Wednesday, Philip Taban said some negative social customs contributed to low turn up of girls in schools, Easter Radio reported.
He said the negative norms also prompted early marriage, indecent dressing which needs solution to promote equality.
Mr Taban appreciated Voice for Change’s new project that would erase negative customs and encourage positive ones that promote gender equality.
The Director urged communities and the local authority to support the project implementation.
Minyori Agency for Transformation and Development Gender Officer Siama Joyce urged the state government to enforce laws to stop gender-based violence.
She emphasized on the need to educate both boys and girls on HIV AIDS and early pregnancies resulting from early sex.
