National Health Ministry’s Undersecretary urged citizens to stop pouring water on streets to avoid malaria.

Makur Matur Kariom called on local authorities including City Councils, Payam administrators and local communities to work together for better care of the environment.

He advised citizens to treat the environment neatly and adopting health lifestyle.

Dr Matur advised people to apply mosquito repellent and use treated nets to avoid bites.

He criticized people staying outdoors for long time at night, pouring water on the street which breeds mosquitoes and increase malaria infections in the country.

Dr Matur said it was everybody’s responsibility to prevent malaria in South Sudan.

National Malaria Control Program Manager Harriet Akello Pasquale encouraged communities to continue using the treated nets, saying it was cheap and easy to use for preventing malaria.

She advised all people with malaria symptoms to test and get the right treatment prescription from the doctor.

Dr Akello criticized citizens who buy medicines for treatment before getting medical test.
