The U.S. President signed the most Africa-specific law in U.S. history to defend women in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic and Sudan from Ugandan rebels’ atrocities.
On Tuesday, President Barack Obama signed and promised to implement the Lord’s Resistance Army Disarmament and Northern Uganda Recovery Act.
The Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) displaced an estimated 300,000 people in the three countries since leaving Uganda in 2005.
It also adducted and killed hundreds of people.
Women are the ones who carry the burden of displacement, forced to take care of their families without access to their farms and businesses.
LRA’s latest attack took place on Sunday near Nzara. Three children were abducted while 12 hostages managed to run for safety.
