The Pontifical President of Peace and Justice Commission in Vatican who arrived in Juba on Tuesday is on Wednesday consecrating the new Church of St Joseph Parish by presiding over the feast of the patron.
Cardinal Turkson Peter Kwadwo Appiah on Tuesday told the faithful during his reception at Joseph Parish old Church that he came to Juba to join South Sudanese in praying for peace.
He said Pope Francis teaches all people in the world to get involved in seeking lasting peace and that ‘we should not globalize indifference’.
The Apostolic Nuncio to South Sudan Charles Daniel Balvo described the presence of Cardinal Tukson in South Sudan as a boost to peace in the country.
The Metropolitan Archbishop of South Sudan Paolino Lukudu Loro warmly welcomed the Cardinal, telling him to feel at home among his people of Africa.
Bishop of Yei Erkulano Lodu Tombe who represented Bishops of South Sudan in welcoming the Cardinal said the presence of Cardinal Kwadwo in Juba manifest the great concern and solidarity of Pope Francis and the whole universal Church.
He said Cardinal’s visit to South Sudan was at the appropriate time, praying that may it bring blessings to the conflict affected country.
Cardinal Peter Kwadwo was received by many Christians at St Joseph Parish old Church with ululations and songs of joy.
