Torit Catholic Diocese Christians on Monday marked one year of the death of Bishop Johnson Akio Mutek.
Sts Peter and Paul Parish Priest Jackino Lomogo said Christians held a memorial mass for the late Bishop at the Cathedral on Tuesday at 4:00 PM, Emmanuel Radio reported.
Bishop Akio passed away on Monday March 18, 2013 in Nairobi after suffering kidney problems and was laid to rest on March 22, 2013 at Sts Peter and Paul Cathedral.
Born in January 1958 to Lazarus Mutek and Lydia Ikoliok, in the last days before his death, Bishop Akio told South Sudanese to learn tolerance and conduct peaceful elections.
The late Bishop Akio Mutek predicted that the political atmosphere in South Sudan would never be the same in the last general elections.
He asked South Sudanese to learn tolerance and political harmony ahead of the next elections, saying there would be many challenges as political parties’ candidates come to contest at various levels.
