Japan announced assistance of 1.5 million US Dollars to support the ongoing peace dialogue on South Sudan’s conflict.
The contribution was a follow-up to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s announcement to provide 320 million US Dollars to respond to conflicts and natural disasters in Africa.
He said the one million Dollars would address security issues in South Sudan as allowances to the Joint Technical Committee staff and the Monitoring and Verification Teams.
Prime Minister Abe added that the 0.5 million US Dollars would assist South Sudan and Sudan democratic transformation towards stability along the border areas including Abyei.
He said the critical support is expected to bring about stability in the country and implementation of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement.
The Prime Minister said the contributions were part of Japan’s assistance amounting to five million US Dollars to the AU Peace Fund, Japan Permanent representative Ambassador Kazuhiro Suzuki communicated to the Peace and Security Commissioner Ambassador Ismail Chergui in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
