United Nations Children’s Fund or UNICEF in Western Equatoria on Wednesday disclosed a plan to bring all church committees together to pass messages of peace to all communities in the state.
Yambio Education Officer Steward Kutiyote said UNICEF wanted to create Youth Leagues in all counties and payams to promote peace through sports, Anisa Radio reported.
He added that UNICEF also wanted to form peace clubs in all schools through the state Education Ministry’s coordination.
State Education Minister Pia Philip Michael said peace building needs collective efforts in the state.
He acknowledged that churches in Western Equatoria were very instrumental in peace building.
Church representative Pastor Edward Nzeme welcomed the initiative and recalled that last year they brought together people from different counties to identify problems that could lead to violence and disputes in the state.
He proposed that brining the Council of Elders from each county to pass messages of peace to their people was another important step.
