IGAD to setup special force to bolster cessation of hostilities

Government Chief Negotiator on Thursday said Inter-governmental Authority on Development or IGAD would soon setup a special force to bolster the cessation of hostilities the South Sudan warring parties signed in February.
 
Nhial Deng Nhial told journalists that the special force would be drawn from IGAD member or other states from the region to protect the monitoring team to would be deployed to different conflict affected areas including oil fields.
 
The Chief Negotiator said President Salva Kiir stressed that it was not appropriate for the seven released detainees to take part in the talks to resume soon.
 
He added that the detainees would participate in a subsequent process as the government plans to launch a broad national dialogue conference where everybody would participate.
 
Mr Deng spoke at Juba International Airport shortly after returning from IGAD’s extraordinary summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on South Sudan.
