Save the Children Country Director described access to health facilities in South Sudan as very difficult especially for rural communities.

Alan Paul said lack of health equipment constitute another major challenge in the young country.

He cited lack of well trained personnel and equipments to provide necessary services as some problems affecting women during pregnancy.

Mr Paul said the government did not invest in health facilities and training personnel to address the challenges.

He said their global report released last month titled ‘Ending newborn deaths’ indicated that there were many complications facing women during delivery.

The Country Director said Save the Children works to ensure that every baby and women survive.

He said though there was improvement in South Sudan’s health situation, still a lot of work needed to be done.

The Country Director lamented that many women intend to give birth at home without the presence of midwives.

Mr Paul urged all women to always visit antenatal care centres and give birth at health facilities for successful delivery.

The Director advised all women to regularly visit health facilities to avoid complications during delivery.
