Citizens of Yambio County in Western Equatoria on Wednesday gathered at Freedom Square to celebrate the International Women’s Day under the local theme: ‘Women call for peace and security to enhance development.’
State Governor Bangasi Joseph Bakosoro called for a formation of women union and cooperatives without tribalism for the government to empower, Anisa Radio reported.
He warned against early marriage, requesting all parents to forgive their daughters who disappointed them by sending them back to school.
Gender, Child and Social Welfare state Minister Zelifa Dawa said Western Equatoria women called for dialogue, peace and security.
Young Women Christian Association Chairlady Christine Ngbaazande appealed to the state government to put more emphasis on women employment policies.
She added that women of Western Equatoria were very disappointed with the war in South Sudan.
The International Women’s Day was postponed on Saturday to Wednesday in Yambio.
