The Supreme Court on Wednesday made a cross-examination of evidences presented to qualify treason charges against four alleged coup plotters namely Pagan Amum Okiech, Oyay Deng Ajak, Ezekiel Lul Gatkuoth and Dr Majak De Agoot.

The accused’s defence lawyer Monyluak Alor asked investigator Major General Jackson Elia whether there was any organized plan to seize power by military force.

Investigator Elia cited press release and telephone conversation between Oyay Deng Ajak and Taban Gai Deng, saying ‘our forces are under pressure’ as evidences.

He added that Dr Riek Machar Teny ordered forces to take guns from the armory.

The investigator explained that on realizing that the armory storekeeper escaped with keys, Dr Machar instructed his forces to break the armory by force.

The court trial was adjourned to March 19, pending the presence of the seven coup suspects released on Kenyan government bail.

The bailed suspects formerly in detention include former cabinet ministers Deng Alor Kuol, Gier Chuang Aluong, Kosti Manibe Ngai, John Luk Jok, Madut Biar Yel and former Lakes State Governor Engineer Chol Tong Mayay.
