Foreign ministry’s spokesperson on Wednesday called on Bor residents in Jonglei State to refrain from threatening Eritreans on suspicion that Asmara government was supporting SPLM/A in opposition.
Mawien Makol Arik said the government got assurance from Asmara in a recent visit of Deputy Foreign Minister Peter Bashir Gbandi that Eritrea would not support the opposition.
He added that the presidential envoy to Asmara was well received, implying very good ties with Juba.
Ambassador Mawien warned citizens against undermining diplomatic engagements between South Sudan and Eritrea governments.
The ambassador said Eritrean citizens in the country should never be targeted and seen as enemies or opposition supporters.
He added that Eritreans are real friends indeed because they remain in South Sudan at the peak of the crisis.
Ambassador Mawien pointed out that any attempt to undermine harmony and rights of Eritreans would not be acceptable at all.
The Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson said law enforcement agents would pursue Eritreans aggressors to face justice.
He assured Eritreans in South Sudan that the government would protect them from any indiscipline aggression from locals following reports of threats and looting of their property in Bor.
