Kajo-Keji County Health Department reported that two people died of meningitis out of eight suspected cases admitted in its Civil Hospital.

County Press Secretary Amule Charles on Thursday told CRN in a telephone interview that Medical Director Edward Mika reported two patients dead, two others under treatment and four lucky ones were discharged.

He added that Medair health agency in partnership with state government rescued the county with drugs for treating meningitis victims.

Mr Amule said Medair team from Juba visited Kajo-Keji County on Wednesday to investigate suspected cases of meningitis.

He added that the team led by a nutrition specialist Twiner Hildeman met Commissioner Henry Kala Sabuni and told him the purpose of its visit.

The Press Secretary said the Commissioner decried absence of health and education organizations that could arrest emergency cases in the county.

Mr Kala invited health and education non-governmental organizations to engage intensively in the area to save lives.

World Health Organization recently said it was scaling up surveillance through agencies to curb the spread of meningitis from Uganda to South Sudan.
