The South Sudan religious leaders on Tuesday met in Juba to look for ways to arrest the crisis and bring lasting peace to South Sudan.

The two-day consultation forum aimed to collect views and set synergies for the national healing and reconciliation, Bakhita Radio reported.

National Peace, Healing and Reconciliation Committee Chairperson Archbishop Daniel Deng Bul said they want to look at the root causes of the mid December crisis and draw a framework to guide the government and the opposition’s peace talks.

He said the church leaders needed to create a space that can calm the situation rather than leaving outsiders to handle.

Juba Catholic Archdiocese Auxiliary Bishop Santo Loku Pio said coming together was important, but religious leaders should admit that they were part of the problems.

He said religious leaders should put themselves as part of those who contributed to the unrest because the people who caused the crisis were parts of religious forums.

A Presbyterian Church member Peter Bol Kuel said church leaders should speak the truth and tell the warring parties their mistakes.
