The director of Wild Life in Jonglei cited cultural beliefs as factors contributing to the destruction of wild life in the state.

Kuol Mayen Mading told SCR News that some tribes still hunt animals for their skins which are believed to be a source of power while others kill for the meat or tusks.

Mr. Kuol affirmed that the communities were sensitized on the value of wild life.

He added that the hunters who fail to respect wild life are taken to courts.

Mr. Kuol was speaking during the Boma-Jonglei Technical Planning Workshop which started today on land use and conservation planning for the Boma-Jonglei landscape area of south Sudan.
