The National Legislative Assembly on Monday formed a five members’ committee to investigate the killing of 19 people in Ngauro Payam of Budi County in Eastern Equatoria State allegedly by heavily armed Toposa men.
Speaker Manasseh Magok Rundial warned parliamentarians against siding along tribal links, urging the house to form an independent committee to investigate the alleged killing of Didinga people and foreign citizens from neighbouring countries.
He confirmed the nomination of five members including Mary Kiden Kimbo of Kajo-Keji County and Salva Mathok Gengdit of Warrap State.
Speaker Magok urged them to act fast in digging out the truth of the matter.
MP Sabina Dario Lokolong who presented the urgent motion to the assembly said at least 229 houses were burnt to ashes in Ngauro area and eleven dead bodies were found on February 15.
She added that six bodies were buried, but five bodies were not buried.
MP Gejuwal Lopuke Gormoi of Kapoeta South County told parliament that the killing was avenge against a killing of a Toposa youth who was brutally murdered and his private part was fixed in the mouth.
Members of parliament were shocked to hear about the heavy level of armament of the alleged perpetrators.
MP Salva Mathok Gengdit warned colleagues against politicizing criminal acts, appealing for serious attention to the matter.
