SPLM/A in opposition forces retook control of parts of Malakal in Upper Nile State after fresh fighting erupted on Tuesday morning.
Government army spokesperson Philip Aguer Panyang confirmed to the press on Tuesday evening that ‘at the moment the force that attacked from the eastern part managed to have some pockets that penetrated into the centre of the town.”
He added that their force was in control of the southern and northern sectors of the town.
The Non Governmental Organizations or NGO’s program manager in Malakal said the new fighting was causing tensions among civilians to spiral.
