Released SPLM political detainees reiterated commitment to peaceful settlement of current crisis in the country.

In a statement signed by their spokesperson John Luk Jok, they appreciated their invitation to the talks and committed to participate effectively and positively alongside other parties to find peaceful and durable solution.

They expressed deep concerned about the immense suffering of South Sudanese due to the ongoing conflict.

Former detainees called upon Inter-Governmental Authority on Development or IGAD and the international community to quickly put in place mechanisms for monitoring and verification of ceasefire agreement to prevent violations and further escalation of the conflict.

They added that killing of people and continued fighting for control of territory was not the best way to address the current crisis but to focus on finding political settlement by addressing comprehensively the underlying issues.

Former detainees urged the President Salva Kiir to release the remaining detainees to contribute in finding solutions to the crisis.
