Association for Media Women in South Sudan or AMWISS encouraged more women to take up key managerial positions in the media houses countrywide.

AMWISS chairperson Veronica Lucy Gordon told Bakhita Radio on Wednesday that despite the larger number of female journalists in both the print and broadcast media, they remain in lower positions.

She pointed out that female journalists remain at 0.9 percent.

Union of Journalist of South Sudan General Secretary Edward Lodu Terso called for more female journalists in the print medium because it is the mother of journalism.

He said media houses should send their staff for more training at different levels.

World Radio Day aimed to remember radio as a medium improving international cooperation, encourages major networks and promotes access to information, freedom of expression and gender equality.

This year’s theme is ‘Gender inequality apparent in Radio broadcasting’.
