United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in South Sudan on Tuesday said 3.7 million South Sudanese need emergency assistance.
Toby Lanzer explained that 12 thousand people were forced to leave their homes, 145 thousand fled to the neighbouring countries and 75 thousand took refuge in UN compounds within the country, Bakhita Radio reported.
Mr Lanzer said Awerial County of Lakes State hosts the largest population of IDPs from Bor South, Twic East and Duk Counties of Jonglei state.
He added that Mikaman in Lakes state is now hosting another 100 thousand IDPs.
The Humanitarian Coordinator said ending conflict in South Sudan was the central problem.
He said UN was working together with the government to establish lager camps to host the IDPs in UNMISS compounds.
