Fire broke out in Jou Market of Wau in Western Bahr El Ghazal on Monday afternoon destroying a number of shops and houses.
Several attempts of the local residents and shop owners to contain the fire were too late, Voice of Hope reported.
An anonymous victim said three children were playing behind the kitchen before the fire erupted.
He lamented apart from one bed rescued, the fire consumed all his belongings in the house.
Madalena Karlo, one of the people whose house was burnt to ashes said information reached her late while she was selling goods in the market and rescued nothing from from her houses.
No casualties were reported but valuable items worth thousands South Sudanese Pounds were destroyed.
