Reconciliation within South Sudan and respect for the environment are two of the key essential principles for the government during the next five years.

Salva Kiir Mayardit was inaugurated yesterday in Juba as the first elected president of the Government of Southern Sudan.

Mr.Kiir set in his inauguration speech 13 cardinal goals and essential principles for his new government, including reconciliation and environment.

Mr. Kiir said he did not want to go into history as the leader who missed the opportunity to keep Southerners united and at peace through harmony and forgiveness.

Mr. Kiir added that during his previous mandate, he worked hard to reconcile the people in order to make South Sudan a better place.

He added that he was inviting leaders from other South Sudan parties to join his government to promote reconciliation and unity.

Mr. Kiir singled out environment protection as a key area of intervention.

He recognized that during the last five years little was done to protect Sudan Sudan natural riches.

Mr. Kiir added that the petroleum industry is a major threat and lack of disposal of waste and swage count for half of sickness cases in South Sudan.

Mr. Kiir explained that his government is inclusive and representative. He warned that the ministers and under-secretaries are not representatives of the places where they come from.

He also criticized self-styled local leaders who impose themselves on people.
