Women on Saturday marched and cried along the streets of Juba asking God to bring peace to the new nation.

South Sudan Council of Churches Women Programme Coordinator Agnes Wasuk said women cried to God because they underwent bad bleeding and were the most vulnerable, Bakhita Radio reported.

She said women understand blood as new life.

South Sudan Council of Churches chairperson Bishop Michael Taban said the prayer aimed to remove the sins South Sudanese committed before God.

He prayed for the replacement of tribalism, corruption, division and disunity with love in the hearts of South Sudanese.

Presidential Advisor on Religious Affairs Rev Mark Lotede Lochapi praised the role of churches in struggling for peace since the Addis Ababa Agreement in 1972.

He added that it was the church that brought David Yau Yau back to the government.

Rev Lotede disclosed that the President of the Republic gave the church a mandate to reconcile the South Sudanese.
