Citizens for Peace and Justice Group composed of academia called for inclusive voices from all South Sudan societies for the peace process in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
A statement signed by twenty-two intellectuals called for the redress of fundamental governance issues that prompted the conflict to spread so quickly.
The group urged all parties to commit to immediate ceasefire and guarantee humanitarian access.
‘All parties must be held accountable for their actions and justice must be delivered for the victims and survivors of the violence’, read part of the statement.
The Peace and Justice Group demanded for a citizen-driven national dialogue to address critical challenges facing South Sudanese to develop a democratic state and promote reconciliation and healing.
The statement pointed out that the indefinite detention without charges of political figures was a violation of South Sudan and international law.
They called on Intergovernmental Authority on Development or IGAD and states involved in mediations to remain neutral to all parties.
The statement called on foreign governments to refrain from providing military assistance to the conflicting parties.
