SPLA Security walked into South Sudan TV offices in Juba this morning and arrested a number of staff that were staging a sit in since Wednesday over unpaid arrears.
A source within the Southern Sudan Television (SSTV) told SCR News that the arrested TV employees include Leila Osman, Beatrice Buteere, Justine Jada, Henry Jada, Victor Lege, and Lilly Nelson. The arrested personnel were among the SSTV and SS Radio staff on strike since Wednesday over unpaid housing allowance for 2009.
In September 2009, the council of ministers of the government of Southern Sudan approved housing allowances for GoSS staff from grade five upwards.
GoSS Ministry of Information and Broadcasting implemented the allowance only in January 2010 while other ministries paid their staff nine months at once and then added the money for rent in the monthly salaries.
SSTV and SSRadio staff are demanding the housing allowances for 2009.
