The Speaker of the South Sudan Assembly urged the lawmakers that were sworn in today to work for the good results of the referendum while presenting his eleven-point programme.

James Wani Igga was today re-elected the speaker of Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly (SSLA).

Mr. Igga thanked the MPs for his election.

He told them that the SSLA should start working immediately towards a successful referendum by mobilizing people and monitoring the implementation of the final stages of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.

Mr. Igga told MPs that the time for reconciliation and pardon arrived in order to remain united during the critical phase.

Mr. Igga thanked the role of religious leaders in their efforts to mobilize Christians, Muslims and non-believers to pray for peace during the elections period.

He promised to be tough with the incompetent, those who are late and with the corrupt.

Mr. Igga said that the SSLA should pass immediately “The Conduct of Business/Regulations” to govern the behaviour and conduct of the parliament and one bill to regulate Post-service Privileges of MPs.

The SSLA will resume its seating on Monday. Tomorrow the MPs will take part in the swearing in of GoSS President elect Salva Kiir Mayardit.
