UN World Food Programme or WFP launched a new 57.8 million US Dollars emergency operation to expand food aid to 400 thousand internally displaced persons or IDPs over the next three months in South Sudan.
WFP East and Central Africa Regional Director Valerie Guarnieri said they still face difficulties to access some areas due to continuous fighting, UN News reported.
He said WFP food stocks pre-positioned at nearly 100 sites around the country were at risk.
The Director said already ten percent of the food enough to feed 180 thousand people for a month was looted.
WFP Deputy Country Director Eddie Rowe urged all parties to protect civilians and safeguard food stocks so that the agency can provide critical relief to violence affected people especially women and children.
He appealed to both sides to allow access for humanitarian agencies to safely provide assistance to those in need.
