A peace mediator said the former rebel leader David Yau Yau was playing United Nations or UN’s role in Pibor County of Jonglei State after signing a peace deal.
Torit Catholic Emeritus Bishop Paride Taban revealed that SPLA who were fighting among themselves fled to Yau Yau for refuge.
He said the former rebel accepted a peace deal with the government under his mediation because Yau Yau was aspiring to become a pastor.
Bishop Taban quoted Yau Yau as saying he fought to liberate Murle tribe from marginalization.
He added that the former rebel demanded Pibor County to be made a state.
Bishop Paride said Yau Yau testified that he had no intention to overthrow President Salva Kiir’s government.
The peace mediator urged the former rebel leader to make peace with the neighbouring states because there was need for interrelation.
