Internally Displaced Persons or IDPs in Awerial of Lakes State increased to 150 thousand people.
Awerial County Commissioner Andrew Ayew Kordit described IDPs’ situation as deplorable as they shelter under trees and open grounds, Good News Radio reported.
He said three thousand IDPs arrived to Awerial on Friday and the number increases everyday.
The Commissioner said the situation urgently needed humanitarian support.
Awerial County Relief and Rehabilitation Coordinator John Panrac lamented that the IDPs increment was beyond the capacity of the state.
He appealed to the international community and NGOs to support the IDPs with food, non food items and drugs.
Awerial Commissioner gave the IDPS four sites: Kalthok, Wun Thou, Guthom and Mingkaman which has the highest number of IDPs.
