Vice President asks Church to preach peace

The Vice President of the Republic called on the Church to preach peace for leaders to resolve the current political crisis.
 
James Wani Igga said it was the right of the Church in South Sudan to talk about peace, Emmanuel Radio reported.
 
Vice President Wani on Thursday paid tribute to the late Torit Catholic Bishop Johnson Akio Mutek at Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral. 
 
He said his visit was to find out the current status of Cathedral building after it was destroyed during the war. 
 
Torit Catholic Vicar General Arkangelo Lokoro Pio appreciated the visit of the Vice President, saying it would be a strength to the people of Eastern Equatoria.
 
He noted that the visit of the Vice President boosted the morale of religious leaders to talk about peace.
 
Fr Lokoro praised the late bishop for staying with his people during the war time.
 
He asked the Vice President to carry peace messages to other states.
 
Torit former Vicar General Joseph Ukelo paid tribute to the late Bishop and prayed for forgives of leaders and people of South Sudan.
 
He asked for peace and an end to the violence in the country.
 
Torit Catholic Cathedral was one of the structures destroyed by the two decades civil war.
 
Fr Kamilo Afore said the Cathedral survived explosion after it was once bombed by the former Sudanese President Jaaffar Mohammed Nimeiri.
