Malakal faces desperate situation

Malakal town in Upper Nile State is facing desperate situation due to the fighting between government forces and those loyal to Riek Machar.
 
A reliable source told CRN that “the population is hiding under beds and is now without food, water, medicines and other basic necessities”.
 
The source added that forces of Machar looted and burned Malakal market leaving the area with no more food.
 
The source said government forces were trying to regain the city and that in the fighting a number of civilians lost lives.
 
The source lamented that “the bombs hit many houses. Among the victims there are several children killed by bullets and bombs.’
 
One doctor left is trying to treat a large number of wounded people who continue to arrive in Malakal hospital, the person said.
 
“There has been fighting in Malakal since December 24 whereby the faithful were not able to celebrate Christmas Mass”, the source lamented.
