CRS to support displaced people in Awerial

Catholic Relief Service or CRS is organizing a team to travel to Awerial in Lakes State to support people displaced from Bor in Jonglei State.
 
Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference or SCBC Secretary General Jacob Odwa told CRN that Catholic Church was trying to reach affected people through Caritas South Sudan and other partners.
 
He called on Caritas staff going to the field in order to divide roles to deliver needed services to the displaced people in Awerial.
 
Caritas South Sudan Humanitarian Coordinator Joseph Pasquale said they planned to provide humanitarian aid, look into security aspect and get permission from the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission and other government authorities.
 
He said the fighting led to large scale displacement and increased humanitarian needs.
 
CRS Head of Programs Tom Purekal said displaced people in Awerial face challenges of lack of clean drinking water and sanitation.
 
He said many dioceses in South Sudan were affected by the current political crisis. 
 
The officials made the statements after Caritas South Sudan coordination meeting in Juba on Tuesday.
