Yei Mayoress said the town will remain SPLA headquarters despite of Brigade Seven Commander Peter Taab defection with some troops on Saturday night.
Briefing Yei Municipality Council, Oba Cecilia Tito, said Taab and his troops fired guns forcing residents of Mahad and nearby areas to seek for safety, Easter Radio reported.
The Mayoress said the departure was without much destruction.
She said Commander Peter Taab defection left many children out of their parents resulting into displacement.
Mayoress Cecilia warned thieves against looting people’s property.
