South Sudan warring parties in the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development or IGAD’s direct mediated negotiations on Monday regretted the ‘unfortunate situation’ their current conflict brought to the country.

IGAD in statement on Monday said the two delegations appreciated the gravity of the situation, the need and urgency of resolving the crisis in South Sudan.

It added that the delegations reminded themselves of the long liberation struggle that culminated in the independence of their country.

IGAD said the two parties endorsed principles, rules and regulations that will guide the dialogue including rules of procedure, structure and terms of reference.

The three Special Envoys and IGAD Executive Secretary Ambassador Mahboub Maalim expressed optimism that the delegations would tackle cessation of hostilities and status of detainees.
