Three South Sudanese journalists were attacked in their residents in connection to the clashes in Juba.

James Irene, Lomya Banak and James Agwek Bier were attacked but all managed to escape and are now hiding in United Nations compound in Juba.

Journalist Banak was badly beaten and sustained severe injuries and was under treatment at UNMIS Compound.

A reliable source from Union of Journalists of South Sudan or UJOSS said Mr Banak and Mr Irene work for Radio Miraya while Mr Agwek works for Bentiu State FM Radio.

The sources said the attack on the two journalists was connected to tribal conflict among between the tribes rather than their journalistic work because the three journalists belong to Nuer tribe.

Seven journalists were stranded in Juba after their training in Cairo, Egypt organised by UJOSS in conjunction with UNESCO.

The journalists arrived in Juba from Cairo on December 15.
