UN Secretary-General proposed reinforcing the United Nations peacekeeping force to stop the conflict in South Sudan.

Ban Ki-moon told the press on Monday in New York that he would call regional leaders and others to bolster military support for UNMISS and political backing for efforts to defuse the crisis, UN Daily Digest reported.

He said he was sending a letter to the Security Council with his recommendations for boosting the protection capacity of UNMISS with additional troops, police and logistical assets.

Mr Ki-moon explained that they were already approaching countries to help meet the new requirements.

The UN Chief said the world is watching all sides in South Sudan, attacks on civilians and the must cease immediately.

He ruled out that the UN will investigate reports of grave human rights violations and crimes against humanity and those responsible at the senior level would be held personally accountable and face the consequences.
