Equatoria National Legislative Assembly MPs on Friday condemned violence in Juba and called for dialogue and peaceful resolution of differences in the country.

Legislators’ representative Tulio Odongi Ayahu said causing destabilization in the nation was not required at the moment, vowing that Equatoria would never be a battle ground again.

He added that Equatoria was the grandfather of the nation, who started the struggle for independence since 1955.

The parliamentarian appealed for peaceful transition of power as opposed to violence.

Mr Odongi said Equatoria leaders were concerned with the violence in Juba that left hundreds of people dead, warning that it should not take ethnic dimension.

He observed that what happened with the SPLM party was a leadership crisis.

The legislator cited the failure of National Convention after five years to elect party chairman to contest for presidency in forthcoming elections.

Mr Odongi described the power struggle in the party as premature challenge to the incumbent president.

He urged interested candidates for the party chairmanship to wait for congresses in 2014 for the contest.
