John Kerry called on national leaders to control armed groups, immediately cease attacks on civilians, and end violence between different ethnic and political groups.

He added that ‘the violence must stop and the dialogue must intensify.’

Mr Kerry disclosed that US Special Envoy for South Sudan and Sudan Donald Booth would travel to Juba to support regional efforts already underway.

He said the US strongly condemned attacks on the United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS base in Akobo County of Jonglei State.

Mr Kerry conveyed US condolences to the UN and victims of the attacks.

He called on all parties to respect UNMISS, refrain from attacking its personnel, help the Mission to protect civilians and secure the delivery of humanitarian assistance to all in need.

The United States and other partners are committed to realize South Sudan’s full political, social, and economic potential.
