Civil servants, citizens, Boda-boda riders and church personnel in Western Equatoria or WES on Wednesday held a peaceful demonstration against security situation due to coup attempt in Juba.

The demonstrators were carrying fliers and banners written ‘we need peace in our country not war’, Anisa Radio reported.

They marched from Yambio Airstrip where they received the State Governor Bangasi Joseph Bakosoro upon his return from Juba.

Governor Bakosoro told the crowd at Yambio Freedom Square that the state government would not entertain anyone interfering with peace.

He warned people against spreading unreliable information or depending on rumours.

Governor Bakosoro advised people to be calm and alert on the security situation in all areas.

The Governor clarified that the fighting that erupted in Juba was not on tribal basis because many suspects arrested were from all states.

He urged the people of Western Equatoria to support the current government and stand firm behind President Salva Kiir.

Tombura-Yambio Catholic Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala said people of Western Equatoria were not happy with what happened in Juba.

He condemned the bloodshed and killings happening in the country.

Bishop Hiiboro called on South Sudanese leaders to seek means for peaceful dialogue.

He requested Western Equatoria cabinet members to unite to prevent such incidents in the state and find ways to disseminate peace to the rest of the country.
