Yambio County authorities on Friday burnt 52 bottles of ‘Shisha’ and two bundles of opium locally call ‘bangi’ in front of citizens.
County Commissioner Kuzee John Elias reminded citizens that three months ago the state governor issued a local order banning consumption of ‘Shisha’ and pocket alcohols including empire and knockout, Anisa Radio reported.
He said shisha is harmful to human health because it causes lung cancer to consumers.
The Commissioner said the Police implemented the order by confiscating about 200 bottles of shisha in which many disappeared and only 52 were burned.
Commissioner Kuzee added that last year many boxes of unwanted alcohol were burnt in Yambio.
He appreciated the police forces for implementing government orders.
The Commissioner warned that opium and shisha business people would go to custody and properties confiscated if they were caught.
Yambio County CID Senior Inspector Daniel Gai said shisha, empire, and opium are not allowed in Yambio County and Western Equatoria State at large.
He reported that two boys caught with bundles of opium will serve six months prison sentence.
Mr Gai warned that anybody found drunk or selling unwanted products would be arrested.
