Women urged government to formulate laws that regulate marriages, divorce, custody of children and inheritance.
A woman activist Christine Auma said in the past if a man died, the wife would be inherited by his brother who would look after the widow and the children, but now some men only grab property of the late, Bakhita Radio reported.
She complained that in case of adultery, women were charged while men were left without charges.
Ms Auma urged human rights and civil society organizations to iron out issues at the grassroots level.
Participant John Lemi Stephen expressed concern with the customary laws of the country and that there was need to amend them.
He urged lawyers to come together and formulate laws that regulate family issues.
The speakers made the remarks during the South Sudan Women Empowerment Network’s two-day workshop to find possible solutions to address family issues in the country.
