UNMISS celebrates World Aids Day in Yambio

UNMISS, the United Nations Mission in South Sudan, on Friday commemorate in advance World Aids Day in Yambio, Western Equatoria State.
 
UNMISS State Coordinator Atakhi Hailu said HIV Aids is a global problem affecting every family and home in one way the other, Anisa Radio reported.
 
He added that it is also becoming a political, economical and social problem mostly among the youth who are the engine of development in the whole world.
 
Mr Hailu appealed to the state government to take the lead by providing resources to support the campaign against HIV Aids among the Western Equatoria communities. 
 
Acting Governor Gibson Bullen Wande said the theme of the celebration was how to get to zero new infection and zero discrimination.
 
He argued that everybody is responsible to enforce the awareness against HIV Aids from the towns to the villages. 
 
State Health Minister John Gboono emphasized that testing, knowledge and behaviour change were very important to fight HIV.
 
State Director for South Sudan Aids Commission, Jane Pia Bangbe stated that 6.8 percent of people are currently living with HIV in Western Equatoria State.
 
The state clocks 7.2 percent of HIV prevalence due to its geographical location according to the survey conducted in 2009. 
 
The occasion was graced with songs and poems from Hope Centre club and Gracia Nursery and Primary School campaigning against the deadly virus.
