Non-governmental organizations and other partners in South Sudan expressed concerned about recent cases of yellow fever in parts of Sudan bordering South Sudan.

Between October 3 and November 17, 40 suspected cases of yellow fever and ten associated deaths were reported in Southern and Western Kordofan states, UNOCHA reported.

It said a vaccination campaign was launched on October 29 targeting 100 thousand people in Southern and Western Kordofan.

OCHA said agencies vaccinated some 80 thousand people and that case fatality rate was 25 percent.

It added that health education campaigns were underway through local radio stations, schools, churches and mosques.

In South Sudan, surveillance was enhanced and strengthened in Maban and Yida refugee settlements.

No suspected case was so far reported in South Sudan.
